An article published in LIFE magazine on October 19, 1942 that discusses the Great Sphinx in Egypt being covered in order to protect it from bombs. The article is accompanied an image of the 1888-1889 World Tour players standing on and around the Great Sphinx.
The World Tour of 1888-1889 was known as the Spalding Australian World Tour. It was organized by A.G. Spalding and took the Chicago White Stockings and an All-Star American team around the world. The main stops of the trip were Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, France, Ireland and the UK.
