A black-and-white full-length posed photograph of Tris Speaker batting. Speaker, facing the camera, is shown wearing a Cleveland Indians road uniform. Depicted in his follow through position, Speaker adopts a modified lunge. Supporting his weight between his bent, front right leg and his straight, back left leg, Speaker rotates his upper body to his right. In gripping the bat, Speaker places left hand over right, holding the bat waist height, angled backwards. Speaker looks forward, to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. Captured on the field, the baseline and a stadium can be seen in the background. Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in blue ink, are the following publication dates, "MAY 16 1920," "AUG 1 1920," and "AUG 15 1920," each with the phrase, "LAST TIME USED." Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Speaker, and the American flag patch visible on the left sleeve of his jersey, this image was captured during the 1918 season. The Indians wore this patch throughout the 1918 season in support of the American war effort during the First World War.
