Grover Cleveland Alexander World Series ring

DescriptionGold ring with clear gem in the center surrounded by a laurel leaf design. Inscription around the gem reads "St. Louis Cardinals World Champions 1926." Each side of the ring has two cardinals on a bat over an oval and shield. Interior inscription reads "Presented to Grover C Alexander / by Base Ball Commissioner."

Bio/Historical NoteIn Game 7 of the World Series on October 10, 1926, Cardinals manager Rogers Hornsby brought in veteran pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander to quell a Yankees rally. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Alexander struck out New York's Tony Lazzeri to preserve a 3-2 St. Louis lead. Alexander pitched shutout ball the rest of the way, as the Cardinals captured their first modern World Series title.
