Both of Gehringer's feet are spaced wide apart in the batter's box. An unidentified catcher is crouched down with his bare hand against his baseball mitt. An unidentified umpire is standing behind the catcher. Tiger Stadium that is filled with baseball fans is visible in the background. Gehringer is dressed in the Detroit Tigers home uniform. The caption written below the photograph on the front states, "J. Wells Shisson 1937 Detroit." Based on the caption and Gehringer's time with the Tigers this photograph was taken in approximately 1937.
