DescriptionA black-and-white, chest length photograph of Monte Irvin dressed in a New York Giants uniform. He has two bats resting on his right shoulder and is looking directly at the camera, smiling. The image caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "High Shoes Irvin: Although the Giants lost yesterday, they got a big lift when Monte Irvin returned to action as a pinch-hitter and singled. Monte has been working out strenuously at the Polo Grounds wearing football cleated high shoes, above right. Although he has been running fairly well, the National League batting champ of last year still favors his injured ankle while at bat."
