Mathews, Garret

Biography From 1972 until 1987, he wrote columns and features for the Bluefield, W. Va., Daily Telegraph. He then moved on to write the metro column for the Evansville Courier and retired from the paper in 2011 after 24 years. In 2000, he was named columnist of the year for Scripps-Howard newspapers. He won several contest awards from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists and the Society of Professional Journalists.
