BiographyRobert Merrill was a baritone of the Metropolitan Opera. The NY Yankees asked him to sing the anthem in 1967. He continued to perform at all post-season games until 2004. He was given a uniform and his official number was 1 1/2. He received the NYY Lifetime Achievement award in 2003. In 2008, the Robert Merrill postal station in New Rochelle, NY, was re-dedicated in his name.
