Biography"Umpire Joe Rue served in the Marines during World War I. Rue began his career in Organized Ball in the Western Association in 1921, having umpired for a season in the Negro National League [1] and then quit. He was hired as a reserve umpire for the American Association in 1923. He was assigned to the Virginia League in 1924, and returned in the AA in 1927. He went to the Pacific Coast League (1933-1934) and AA again (1935-1937). Rue was then an American League umpire from 1938 to 1947. He worked the 1943 World Series and the 1943 All-Star Game." -- Baseball Reference.
