for Bloomer Girls (Baseball team)
BiographyBeginning in the 1890s, all-women Bloomer Girls teams barnstormed across the country playing against men's semi-pro, club, and collegiate teams. Several teams with this name co-existed simultaneously and adopted city-specific names. Occasionally, teams fielded men who dressed in drag. The last team with this name disbanded in 1934. The team name derived from the style of uniform worn by the players, invented by Amelia Bloomer.
