Biography"Joseph Shaffer pitched in the minor leagues from 1933 to 1942, mostly with the Louisville Colonels (1936-1942), to limited success. He finished with a 44-53 record, going 9-13 with a 5.24 ERA and 243 hits allowed in 194 innings in 1936, 4-8, 5.54 with 170 hits allowed in 121 innings in 1937 and 8-16, 5.47 with 205 hits allowed in 163 innings in 1938. He managed the Waterloo White Hawks for part of the 1949 season, replacing Ben Huffman. He also scouted for the Chicago White Sox (1948-1975, 1978-at least 1983) and Oakland Athletics (1975-1978).
