Biography"""Bill was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on November 5, 1931, to Walter and Leota Guilfoile. After graduating from Fond du Lac High School, he attended the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Bill was president of his senior class, was elected to ""Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities,"" and was named to receive Notre Dame's ""Dome Award,"" presented annually to four seniors selected as the outstanding members of their class.Upon graduating from Notre Dame, Bill served as a naval officer for over three years. In 1957, he married Loretta White in Brooklyn, New York, and their marriage was blessed with a daughter and three sons. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1958, Bill and Loretta returned to Fond du Lac, where Bill began working for the A.C. Nielsen Company. In 1960, he took a position as Assistant Public Relations Director with the New York Yankees, and spent the rest of his working career in the sport he loved, baseball. After 10 years with the New York Yankees, he became Director of Public Relations for the Pittsburgh Pirates, being fortunate to serve on World Series Championship teams with both the Yankees and the Pirates. In 1978, Bill left the Pirates to become Vice- President of Public Relations and Assistant to the President for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., where he served the last 18 years of his baseball career. Among the honors he received there was the Robert O. Fishel Award in 1996, baseball's highest award for public relations excellence. Bill and Loretta returned to Fond du Lac for a number of years after his retirement, and he served on the Marian College faculty, teaching a course in Public Relations. In 2008, they moved to a condominium at Holy Cross Retirement Village in Notre Dame.
