Cavarretta, Phil, 1916-2010

Phil Cavarretta was a first baseman and outfielder for the Chicago Cubs from 1934-1953, and the Chicago White Sox in 1954 and 1955. He managed the Chicago Cubs from 1951-1953, and managed in the Minor Leagues between 1956-1972. Cavarretta was a coach with the Detroit Tigers from 1961 to 1963 and a member of the New York Mets staff from 1975 to 1978. Starting in 1973, he had been the Mets' full-time hitting instructor, roving the minor leagues after finishing spring training with the major league club.
