DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Mel Ott, left, and Clint Hartung, right, captured sitting on the edge of a dugout chatting. Ott is sitting in a relaxed pose and there is a baseball bat on the ground in between his legs. He is looking out of the corner of his eyes towards Hartung and has a slightly serious expression on his face. Hartung is seated in the dugout. Hartung's left hand is resting on top on an equipment bag. A catcher's glove and chest protector are on the ground in front of the two gentlemen. Both gentlemen are dressed in New York Giants road uniforms. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "Mel Ott (left), New York Giants manager, gives some advice to outfielder Clint Hartung in the dugout at Tucson, Ariz., before start of exhibition game with Cleveland Indians, March 13." Based on the caption, this photograph was taken on March 13, 1947.
