Jesse Burkett Pendant Portrait photograph
Datebetween 1902 and 1904
DescriptionA black-and-white portrait photograph of Jesse Burkett. Burkett, shown from the chest up, wears a St. Louis Browns road jersey. Shown in 3/4 profile, Burkett looks forward to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. The portrait is surrounded by a pendant frame. A baseball, two crossed bats, and scroll decoration is visible at the bottom of this frame. A caption below the photograph, typed in black ink, reads, "JESSE BURKETT Jesse Burkett, who for many years pranced about left field in the big league and who is now manager of the Worcester Club of the Massachusetts State League. He was one of the greatest batsmen of modern days. There is some talk of his being asked to manage a big league club in 1911. Based on the career of Burkett, this image was captured between 1902 and 1904, the only period he played for St. Louis.
