Edward Andrade USS Whipple pants

DescriptionWhite cotton pants with five button fly and red detailing down the outer leg seams. There is a front waist watch pocket on proper right side. Red bands form a T on the rear patch pockets. Interior back of the waistband has "Edward Andrade USS Whipple W-217" in black ink with "Andrade" stenciled in blue ink. There are five white cotton belt loops on the waistband.
Bio/Historical NoteUniform pants worn by catcher, Edward Andrade, a sailor aboard the USS Whipple, a Naval Destroyer assigned to the Asiatic Fleet during World War II. The crew played other military teams when in port as well as the Chinese in Tsingtao and Shanghai. The team's uniforms and equipment were stored in the YMCA in Manila. Most everything was lost during the Japanese bombing of Manila.
