Smash Hit! program

Date1947
DescriptionA souvenir program on how the Boston Post promoted and staged its New England Dream Game. The program states that on June 8, 1947, the Boston Post announce its baseball program, which would include two teams of 22 players per squad. One team would be selected players from the Greater Boston area and the second team from combined cities and towns of New England. The players would be picked by major league scouts. The game was played at Braves Field, Boston, on August 9th under the lights. There was a pre-game slug-fest between Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Tommy Henrich, and Earl Torgeson, with Ted Williams winning the trophy. Before a crowd of 24,523, the Greater Boston team won 7-6. The net receipts went to the Infantile Paralysis Foundation wing of the Boston Children's Hospital. The front cover has an illustration of a player swinging a bat with stars above him and the words "Smash Hit!." Below it reads "The Boston Post's Record Breaking Dream Game of 1947." The back cover has an advertisement for the Boston Post.
