DescriptionA newspaper column titled "The Sports Beat" that was written by Wendell Smith and published on September 1, 1945. The article criticizing Branch Rickey's comments that St. Louis could not support two baseball clubs because of a lack of interest from African Americans. The author points out that if the major league teams hired African-American athletes they might see better attendance. Smith also poses the question "What is so Complicated About it?" The column has been partially folded and pasted to a piece of blue paper.
