Bio/Historical NoteLicense plate from a car owned by Christy Mathewson. Plate is consistent with that used by NY State in 1912. In 1912, the New York Evening Mail took up a collection from New York Giants fans to purchase a Columbia-Knight roadster automobile (worth $4,500) as a gift for Mathewson. The car was presented to him on field at the home opener for the Giants, April 19, 1912. After the pre-game presentation, Mathewson beat the Dodgers, 6-2, for his 290th career win.
