Date1912
DescriptionRectangular metal license plate with "41757 NY" painted in white on the front. There are four oblong holes, two on the top and two on the bottom, as well as a circular hole in each corner for mounting. Reverse has "L&G Mfg. Co." stamped in the center.
Bio/Historical NoteLicense plate from a car owned by Christy Mathewson. Plate is consistent with that used by NY State in 1912. In 1912, the New York Evening Mail took up a collection from New York Giants fans to purchase a Columbia-Knight roadster automobile (worth $4,500) as a gift for Mathewson. The car was presented to him on field at the home opener for the Giants, April 19, 1912. After the pre-game presentation, Mathewson beat the Dodgers, 6-2, for his 290th career win.
