Date1963 September 17
DescriptionA set of two black-and-white photographs of hot dogs being wrapped in cellophane and shown off on September 17, 1963. A caption above the photo (not shown) reads, "9/17/63_New York: The catering company which services Yankee Stadium fans with their hot dogs have devised a new method for wrapping the dogs in cellophane--too [sic] keep heat in and germs out. At left, Jack Doyle holds up the finished product. At right, workers show how the franks are made then wrapped by the new machine." The photograph on the left, of Doyle shows him from the chest up, holding the hot dog with both hands at shoulder level. Doyle smiles and looks at the camera. The photograph on the right shows two employees at the machine. The employee in the background cooks the hot dogs, while the employee in the foreground wraps them in cellophane. An article on the back (not shown) is titled "World Series First: Hot Dogs Blanketed" and briefly describes the new hot dog wrapping process, stating the new machine can pack up to 36 hot dogs per minute.
