DescriptionA sepia-toned, full-length photograph of Christy Mathewson, dressed in a New York Giants uniform, posed in the wind up. Based on the style of his uniform and his time with the Giants, the photograph was taken between 1900 and 1902. The image caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Mathewson at height of pitching career. Christy Mathewson, pitcher with the New York Giants, shown in a pitching pose at the height [of] his career. Mathewson is generally regarded as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the game. He died in 1926 [of] tuberculosis, a result of being g[assed duri]ng active service in the world [war]."
