"Walter Johnson A Salvation Army Fan" photograph

Date1926 April
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Walter Johnson presenting an autographed ball to a woman as children look on. The caption on the reverse (not shown) states, "Walter Johnson, in New York today with his fellow Senators for the first time this season, is a Salvation Army Fan. He is shown here giving an autographed baseball to Captain Edith Ivings, to be used in stimulating the interest of children in the forthcoming Annual Maintenance Appeal for work in Greater New York." This was probably taken at Yankee Stadium based on the year and the fact that the Senators were in the American League.
