Babe Ruth and Al Smith at the start of the game in which they decided to team against Bob Shawkey, new Yankee manager, and Bill Klem, the umpire. The count was 8 and 7 in favor of the Shawkey-Klem team. The Bambino's individual score was 95 while that of the former democratic presidential candidate was 119. Ruth is staying with his wife at the Biltmore here while waiting for the Yankee executives to decide on his contract Smith is enjoying a winter vacation with his family in the Southland before getting back to work on his most recent project, the building of the Empire State skyscraper." Based on similar images, this photograph was taken in 1930.
