DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Ted Williams in 1952. The first caption on the reverse reads, "Diamond's Loss? Red Sox slugger Ted Williams thinks he [may] be 'too old' to return as a player in 1954 when he'll be 35 years [old]. Ted is undergoing intensive training as a jet pilot at Roos[evelt] Roads Naval Base, Puerto Rico. His probably assignment is F[___]." The second caption on the reverse reads, "May Not Return to Diamond. Puerto Rico: Marine Capt. Ted Williams, who is currently undergoing intensive training as a jet pilot before probably assignment to the Korean battlefront, indicated, Oct. 16, that he probably never will return to baseball in any capacity. The star slugger of the Boston Red Sox, stationed now at Roosevelt Roads Naval Base, Puerto Rico, said he might be 'too old' to return as a player in 1954, when he'll be 35 years old."
