BiographyCochrane was a coach, athletics historian, teacher, and administrator. Cochrane is recognized nationally for his coaching success and his interest in preserving the history of soccer. He served as chairman of the Historical Committee of the Oberlin College Heisman Club from 1988-1995 and was a member of the Oberlin College Athletic Hall of Fame Committee from 1986-1995. He then taught physical education and coached soccer at Johns Hopkins University from 1954-64, Brook Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, from 1956-57, and Bowling Green State University from 1964-77. He also coached lacrosse at Bowling Green from 1964-75. During his career he has also coached wrestling, baseball, volleyball, swimming, and track. Cochrane has received a multitude of awards due to his dedication as an educator and coach throughout the years. For his many years of service at Bowling Green State University, he received the Honorary Alumnus Award in 1987 followed by his induction into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. In addition, the Bowling Green soccer field was named in his honor for his successful efforts in starting a competitive intercollegiate soccer program. Cochrane was named USILA Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 1970 and Ohio Soccer Coach of the Year in 1969 and 1972. In 1978 he was presented with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's prestigious Honors Award and in1984 he was honored with the ISSA Bill Jeffrey Award for establishing the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, New York.
