Biography"Former minor league outfielder James Rowson joined the Chicago Cubs coaching staff in 2012. Selected by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round of the 1994 amateur draft, Rowson played two years in their organization and another season in the New York Yankees chain. He then spent 1998 with the Cook County Cheetahs of the independent Heartland League. From 2002 to 2005, Rowson was a minor league hitting coach in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization. He coached for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2003 and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2004-2005. He then spent six years in the Yankees system as a hitting coach before joining the Cubs as minor league hitting coordinator prior to the 2012 season. In June of that year, he was promoted to the team's big league staff, replacing Rudy Jaramillo on an interim basis. After the season, he was confirmed as the team's permanent hitting coach, and stayed until the end of the 2013 season. After his stint with the Cubs, Rowson returned to the Yankees as a minor league hitting instructor. In 2017, he was named hitting coach of the Minnesota Twins.
