NationalityAmerican
Biography"Joe (EDWARD JOSEPH), 80, of Coconut Grove (Miami FL) retired professional baseball executive and team owner, whose career spanned over 50 years, passed away August 16, 1996, after a lengthy illness. He had been a Miami area resident since 1947, when he arrived to take the job of general manager of the Miami Beach Flamingos of the Florida International League.
He followed in the footsteps of his father, Ray Ryan Sr., who had a 55-year career of his own as a player (catcher, 1910 Chicago White Sox) and minor league manager, team owner, and (minor)league president, until his death in 1958. Prior to joining the Flamingos, Joe had already been a GM in the South. He spent seven years with the Flamingos (1947-1954), successfully campaigned for a AAA baseball team for Miami, and became the general manager of the Miami Marlins of the International League in 1956 (when the legendary Bill Veeck was team vice president). He later served as GM for the AAA Atlanta Crackers, Oklahoma City 89ers, and Wichita Aeros.
In 1971, he was named president of the AAA American Association and remained president until he retired in 1987.
He was also co-owner of the Miami Marlins (and Miami Amigos)of the Florida State League." -- https://www.findagrave.com/
