BiographyJoe Battin played for the Cleveland Forest Citys of the National Association (1871), Philadelphia Athletics of the National Association (1873-1874), St. Louis Brown Stockings of the National Association (1875), St. Louis Brown Stockings of the National League (1876-1877), Pittsburgh Alleghenys of the American Association (1882-1884, 1883-1884 as player-manager), Chicago Browns of the Union Association (1884), Baltimore Monumentals of the Union Association (1884), and the Syracuse Stars of the American Association (1890). After his playing career, Battin umpired in the National League (1891).
