DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack captured as he sits at his desk and talks on the telephone. Mack has a small smile on his face and is holding papers in his left hand. Numerous other pieces of paper clutter Mack's desk. He is dressed in a suit. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "Mack Nears 81st Birthday Connie Mack, veteran manager of the Philadelphia Athletics who will observe his 81st birthday Dec. 23 transacts some business over the telephone at his Shibe Park office in Philadelphia Dec. 20, where he may be found daily engaged in the talk of building another championship ball team despite his years, Mack says: 'I'm gonna keep agoin'...I'm still hoping to win another pennant, ya know..." Based on the newspaper clipping and additional information stamped on the reverse (not shown) this photograph was taken on December 20, 1943.
