DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Philadelphia Athletics manager Connie Mack. Mack is seated on his desk next to two trophies and a white elephant statue, the Athletics' mascot. The caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Connie Mack on eve of 70th birthday. Philadelphia Bureau, Philadelphia, Pa. Ready to observe his arrival at the three-score-and ten mark, which takes place tomorrow, Mr. Cornelius McGillicuddy, of course that's Connie Mack, manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, sees only bright spots ahead for baseball, and himself, and thinks he has a pretty good chance of winning his tenth pennant in 1933. About himself - well, he doesn't feel like a 70-year-old man. Photo shows Mr. Mack in his office with several of the trophies receives from many of friends and also the white elephant, an old insignia of the A's. " According to a label on the reverse, this photograph was taken on December 22, 1932.
