DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Lefty Grove, of the Boston Red Sox, captured as he winds up on the pitcher's mound during a game against the New York Yankees on June 1, 1935. Grove is looking over his shoulder with a straight face. His right foot is lifted off the ground and his arms are extended out in front of his body. Grove is dressed in a Boston Red Sox road uniform. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Here is Lefty Grove as he pitched the Boston Red Sox to a six-hit shutout against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium June 1. His canny control, replacing his speed of former years, and the manner in which he turned back the Yankees with only one man reaching third, again raised the possibility that he has finally hit the comeback trail. 6-1-35"
