DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Lefty Grove captured smiling while signing his autograph on a baseball for young fans. Grove is seated on a chair as young fans surround him and hold out baseballs for Grove to sign. Grove is dressed in a suit. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Young baseball fans crowd around Lefty Grove to get the famous athlete's autograph at the Cumberland, MD., police boys' club dinner. Lefty, who made his name with the Philadelphia Athletics and finished with the Boston Red Sox, talked with the youngsters and showed movies.1/16/1950" Based on the caption, this photograph was taken in January of 1950.
