DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Blanche McGraw, wife of the late John McGraw, captured holding a baseball out in honor of her throwing the first pitch on October 6, 1951 during game three of the World Series where the New York Giants faced the New York Yankees and won 6-2. Mrs. McGraw is grinning while standing in the stadium. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) reads, "Mrs. John McGraw, wife of the late great Giant manager, throws out the first pitch in the third game of the '51 World Series in the Polo Grounds on Oct. 6th. Mrs. McGraw's left arm is swathed in a cast after it was broken in an accident recently. Big John's spirit swooped low over the home of the Giants, as they ripped the Yankees, 6-2." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on October 6, 1951.
