DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of, from left to right, Carl Erskine, Walter Alston, Mel Ott, and Pee Wee Reese. Ott is captured holding a microphone as he speaks with Erskine, Alston and Reese. Erskine has his arms crossed and has his baseball glove on. Alston has his hands on his hips, as does Reese. Ott is dressed in a sports jacket and a button down shirt whereas Erskine, Alston and Reese are dressed in Brooklyn Dodgers road uniforms. A newspaper clipping is attached to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "Mel Ott, former New York Giant player and manager, holds microphone at St. Petersburg, FLA., March 25, as he interviews members of the Brooklyn Dodgers. From left are: Carl Erskine, manager, Walt Alston, Ott, and Pee Wee Reese. Ott has signed as a broadcaster for mutual network's 'game of the day.'" There are two additional copies of this photograph that have been cropped to just feature Ott. The caption on the front of the photograph (not shown) states, "Mel Ott, above, member of Baseball's Hall of Fame, and Mrs. Ott were injured last night in an auto accident near Bay St. Louis. Miss. This is a 1955 picture." A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (also not shown) and states, "Mel Ott, above, former outfielder and manager of a New York Giants and a member of Baseball Hall of Fame, was injured critically late Nov. 14 in an auto accident near Bay St. Louis, Miss. His wife was also injured in the crash."
