Mel Ott composite photograph
Dateprobably 1955
DescriptionA black-and-white composite photograph of Mel Ott. Ott is captured on the left wearing a New York Giants road uniform. He is looking up following a baseball he had just hit and he is holding a baseball bat in his right hand. On the right, Ott is captured looking up examining a structure while holding a blueprint in his hand. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Mel Ott, one of the all time greats of a New York Giants, now is a vice-president of the Milan Engineering Company in New Orleans. Mel, known as 'the man in motion' during his baseball career now concentrates his energy on checking the progress of firm's construction jobs (right). The all-time home run king of the National League (pictured at left following the path of a ball he belted into the seats during his giants career) thinks Willie Mays, of the Giants, or Ed Mathews, of Milwaukee Braves, have the best chance to better his mark. Mel is still chortling over the way the Polo Grounders won the World Series in four straight games. He's regarded as a genius in the New Orleans area because that's just the way he picked the serie. 1-19-55." Based on the caption, this photograph was probably created in 1955. While the image on the right probably was taken in 1955, the image on the left would have been taken during Ott's time playing with the Giants.
