Ray Schalk World Series shirt

DescriptionCream-colored wool shirt with three quarter sleeves and three white buttons down the front half placket. There are four buttonholes but the top button is missing. There is a navy blue collar with red piping and also navy blue trim and red piping around the sleeve ends. Proper left chest has a large faded blue "S" trimmed in red piping with white cutout stars and a smaller "o" and "x." Each sleeve has an embroidered American flag patch. "R Schalk" is embroidered in gray script lettering on the proper left front shirttail. There is a manufacturer label at the interior back of the neck, "Mascot Brand / Western Sporting Goods Mfg. Co. / Chicago, U.S.A." Beneath this is a rectangular white tag which is blank. There are six ventilation holes under each arm.
Bio/Historical NoteSpecial uniform shirt worn by Chicago White Sox catcher Ray Schalk during the 1917 World Series. The uniforms were red, white, and blue, rather than the team's standard black and white, in support of the troops overseas during the first World Series after the United States entered World War I. The White Sox beat the New York Giants in six games.
