George Sisler and Rogers Hornsby photograph

Dateprobably 1928
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of George Sisler, left, and Rogers Hornsby, right, captured standing on a baseball field shaking hands. Sisler has a large smile on his face and is looking towards the photographer. He is holding his baseball glove under his left arm. Hornsby is captured in profile smiling towards Sisler with his free hand on his hip. Both gentlemen are dressed in Boston Braves uniforms, but it is indistinguishable whether or not it is a home or road uniform. Hornsby was only a member of the Braves for the 1928 season, and served as their second baseman and manager. Several unidentified individuals are visible in the background. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "When George Sisler, former St. Louis Browns manager, joined the Boston Braves, under Rogers Hornsby, former St. Louis manager, the Braves were supposed to spurt. But they didn't. Now Rogers is banished for being naughty to the umpire." Based on Sisler and Hornsby's uniforms, their time together with the Braves, and a date stamp on the reverse (not shown), this photograph was probably taken in 1928.
