DescriptionWhite leather baseball with red stitching and a black manufacturer stamp. Two panel sides have visible handwritten lettering in black ink, "Ewing M. Kauffman / Muriel Kauffman / Kansas City Royals" and "Stuart Symington / [illegible] / [illegible] / Kansas City."
Bio/Historical NoteThis first pitch ball was thrown by U.S. Senator Stuart Symington on April 8, 1969, at Municipal Stadium, to start the Kansas City Royals' inaugural season. Symington, who was instrumental in bringing baseball back to Kansas City, then joined the crowd to enjoy the Royals' 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins in 12 innings.
