DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Lefty Grove captured walking off a baseball field with his head bowed down after losing a game against the Chicago White Sox on July 18, 1941. Grove has a straight face. He is dressed in a Boston Red Sox road uniform. Comiskey Park is visible in the background. Umpire John Quinn is walking off the field in the background. A caption on the front of the photograph (not shown) states, "Bob (Lefty) Grove, 41-year-old Boston Red Sox southpaw, sadly leaves the field today after he was thwarted again in his quest for his 300th American League pitching victory. A team-mate's error in the 10th inning let in the run that gave the Chicago White Sox and 4-3 decision. In background is umpire John Quinn."
