DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Lefty Grove captured in profile with his left arm extended out in front of him while holding a baseball. Grove has a serious expression on his face. He is dressed in a Philadelphia Athletics home uniform. Shibe Park is visible in the background. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Here is the man and the arm that dealt the New York Yankees their first shut out in 308 games. Lefty Grove of the Philadelphia A's gave the hard-hitting New Yorkers only 5 hits and they were well scattered. Pitchers for over two years have been trying to shut out the yanks. The fin-..." Based on the caption, this photograph was probably taken in 1933.
