Bio/Historical NoteBaseball hit by Willie Mays of the San Francisco Giants to get his 3000th career hit on July 18, 1970, a single off Montreal Expos pitcher Mike Wegener. Mays became the tenth member of the 3000 hit club. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.
