DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Walter O'Malley, left, and Mary Louise Smith, right, captured standing next to one another holding their hands up together to celebrate. Both O'Malley and Smith have large smiles on their faces and are dressed in formal wear. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "Walter O'Malley (above-L) new boss of the Brooklyn Dodgers, hold hands in victory sign with Mrs. John L. Smith (above-R) after O'Malley inadvertently revealed in a press conference 10/24 that Branch Rickey would not be back with the club in '51. O'Malley announced that he and Mrs. Smith would 'exercise their prior right' and buy Rickey's 25 percent interest in the club." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on October 24, 1950.
