Letter and ticket from Everett B. Robb to Ty Cobb

DescriptionA typed letter from baseball fan, Everett B. Robb to Ty Cobb, October 4, 1959. The top includes Robb's address with the date below. To the left, is "Mr. Tyrus R. Cobb, Royston, Georgia." Robb writes Cobb to tell him he saw him play in a July 1907 game in Detroit. He had 60 cents in his pocket and saw Detroit play Washington, and won. He had a dime left so took a coal car back to Columbus, Ohio, and has not left the city since. He writes that he is enclosing the Rain Check from that game, that he has had for 57 years [should be 52 years]. It is signed "E. B. Robb." The ticket reads "Detroit Base Ball Co., Season 1907, Rain Check." It includes the ticket's terms and conditions, with Frank Navin's facsimile signature. To the left, it reads "46, .50 cents." The verso has an advertisement for John W. Merriam & Co. and a cigar store. This game was either July 16 or 18, since he writes that Detroit won.
