Bio/Historical NoteBaseball thrown for the final out, a strike-out, in Game 5 of the 1988 World Series on October 20, 1988. Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher Orel Hershiser struck out Oakland Athletics' batter Tony Phillips to end the 1988 World Series. Dodgers' catcher Rick Dempsey caught the ball and, following the game, presented it to the Dodgers' general manager Fred Claire. The Dodgers defeated the Athletics 4-1.
