Letter and Attachment from Adolph Weil to Barney Dreyfuss

Date1913 April 19
DescriptionA letter dated April 19, 1913 from Adolph Weil to Barney Dreyfuss explaining that Weil found the enclosed stock certificate after "recent high water" and thought Dreyfuss would like to have it as a "souvenir of when he began his career in baseball." Weil adds that he hopes that Dreyfuss will win the pennant in 1913, referring to the team Dreyfuss owned, the Pittsburgh Pirates. The letter was typed on Distillery & Bonded Warehouses Cor Mill & Bridge Sts./H. Weil & Sons letterhead and is signed by Weil in pencil. The stock certificate is dated May 23, 1885 and states that A. M. Laevison has been given one share in the capital stock of the Paducah Base Ball Assocation of Paducah, Kentucky. The certificate is signed by Barney Dreyfuss, the team's secretary, and Chas Viehaur(?), team president. One share was worth $50. There is illustration of an eagle standing on top of a shield with the American flag in the lower left corner. The certificate is filled out with red and black inks.BA EPH Players/Non-Players
