Phil Rizzuto Navy jumper

DescriptionBlack jumper with long sleeves and a deep v-neck. Collar flap and neckline have three stripes of white trim. There are two white embroidered stars, one in either corner, on the back side collar flap. Underneath the collar flap on the reverse is a white label with manufacturer information and handwritten lettering, "Phil Rizzuto / SP 10LASS-1942." There is a yellow embroidered Ruptured Duck insignia on the proper right front chest. There is a single small pocket on the proper left front chest. Cuffs have three stripes of white trim and fasten with two black plastic buttons with anchors stamped onto them. Proper left sleeve has a patch depicting a white embroidered eagle, a white embroidered "A" within a white embroidered diamond, and three red chevron stripes. Interior front lower edge has "Kopfensteiner W.P." stamped in faint white lettering.
Bio/Historical NoteShirt worn by Phil Rizzuto while serving in the United States Navy between 1943 and 1945. Rizzuto was stationed at Norfolk Naval Training Station in 1943 where he played baseball on a regular basis. He was later in charge of a 20mm gun crew on a ship in the Pacific, but contracted malaria while in New Guinea. Rizzuto was sent to Australia to recover and coached the US Navy baseball team while there.
