DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Ty Cobb dressed in a suit, seated in a chair in 1957. The image caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Gives Money to Educate Needy Youth New York: Ty Cobb, one of baseball's greatest and richest stars, checks applications for financial aid sent to his Cobb foundation, in his room at the Ambassador Hotel here July 30th. Cobb disclosed he is giving away his money for the education of needy youth. The New York World-Telegram and Sun said July 30th Cobb reluctantly admitted his generosity when asked about it. The only requirements 'to come and get some of this money' are to be a resident of Georgia, to have completed one year in college, to have a real need for money for education and to deserve help. Cobb, 71, a native of Georgia, is reported to have given more than one million dollars in cash and securities to the foundation."
