The caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) reads: "Walter Johnson, former ace pitcher for the Washington Senators, who divides his time now between farming and business, was an easy winner in his first venture in politics. He defeated his opponent for the Republican nomination for Commissioner of the Second District of Montgomery County, Maryland, in Maryland's primary Sept. 12. Back at his desk in Washington the following morning, Johnson flashed a big smile as final returns came in."
