Mel Ott Sliding photograph

Dateprobably 1935
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Mel Ott as he slides into second base. Ott has his right arm on the ground and is holding his left arm up. His right foot is tagging second base. Second baseman, Young, has missed a baseball that is on his right side as he is fumbling on the ground to get the ball. An unidentified umpire is standing close by watching the play. An unidentified player is stepping towards second base as back up. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "And here's Mel Ott pulling into second on his double which scored Myatt. The ball can be seen to the right of second baseman Young. Ott came home later on a single by Seeds." A second caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Ott slides into 2nd...on 2 base hit in 1st inning." Ott is dressed in a New York Giants home uniform, therefore this game took place at the Polo Grounds in New York, N.Y. Based on Ott's uniform and his time with the Giants, this photograph was probably taken in 1935.
