DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Babe Ruth and Jacob Ruppert. The caption (not shown) reads "With Col. Jacob Ruppert (left), owner of the New York Yankees, a beaming witness, Babe Ruth is pictured as he signed to play with the club as a player for another year at a salary of $35,000--The terms of which he and the Colonel had agreed a few days ago. The ceremony took place in the colonel's New York brewery January 15. The present figure is a drop of around 55 percent from the record top of $80,000 paid the veteran slugger for his labors in 1930 and 1931." The caption on another copy of this photograph (not shown) reads "Babe Ruth, star of the New York Yankees and one of baseball's greatest figures , as he signed his 1934 contract today with Col. Jacob Ruppert, owner of the Yankees looking on. The Babe's 1934 contract calls for $35,000 for the season in comparison with the $52,000 he received for 1933 and his peak of $80,000 in 1930 and 1931. However in spite of this Mr. Ruth remains the highest paid player in baseball."
